Cripple Creek, Colorado

All aboard (except for Phil who was taking the picture) the Cripple Creek & Victor Narrow Gauge Railroad.

We even had some donkeys on board.

Overlooking the town of Cripple Creek.
The second train looked a lot like Thomas the Train...
Our train took us for a 45 min scenic journey through the country filled with abandoned gold mines.
Echo Valley - the conductor gave us a demonstration with the train whistle.
Holding on as we go over the trestles.
The biggest open pit gold mine in Colorado.
Returning to the station, we met up with "Thomas" again.

The kids needed a photo with the donkeys. Lucy has taken quite an interest in donkeys after learning they like to eat garbage.
Wild donkeys still roam the countryside and town of Cripple Creek. They were released into the wild after there was no more need for them in the gold mining industry.
We spotted more donkeys on our walk through town, but never got to see the wild donkeys.
Running away from bears...
Charlie and Sophie trying to pull the covered wagon.
The once abandoned streets of Cripple Creek are now filled with casinos.
