Rocky Mountain National Park

The Stanley Hotel, overlooking the town of Estes Park.

Stephen King stayed at this hotel while writing The Shining and based the book on this hotel. Redrum, Redrum!

The Bischoffs at the first lookout at Rocky Mountain National Park.

We played the Animal game. Before entering the park, each person picked two Colorado animals. The first one to spot their animal would win the game. Charlie won when we spotted his Elk on a snow patch. We all thought Phil would be the biggest loser with his choices of ghost cat and black bears, but it turns out that everyone but Charlie lost. The Elk were the only wildlife we saw.

Charlie with his grasshopper.

And a cricket? When we first got out of the car and heard the distinct rustling sounds, Charlie and I were both concerned we were surrounded by rattlesnakes. Luckily, that was not the case.

A great spot for a photo shoot!

At the visitor center, the kids got to try on costumes.

Jellystone Park - Labour Day Weekend

Hard to believe but we didn't take our first camping trip this year until September! We headed northwest to Estes Park, CO to do some camping with Yogi Bear.

The real bears! (or so Lucy thought...)
Lucy loved meeting the bears, Chloe - not so much.
You can see Chloe trying to get as far away from the big bear as possible.
Raising the Flag with the picnic basket snatchers.
Our spot, No 100, was the most difficult spot the old tent trailer has ever been maneuvered into - down a steep, L-shaped incline around a tree and with a steep drop off at the edge of the road. Luckily, the park staff directed Phil in cause there may have been a divorce if I had to do it!

Grilling up hot dogs for lunch.

We were surrounded by mountains and our neighbours weren't very visible, due to the fact that they were at a different altitude!

Time for S'mores!
All in hoodies and blankets - boy was it cold in the mountains!

Denver Downtown Aquarium

Last Sunday, we finally gave into Charlie's pleading to go to the Aquarium. Since November, when we found out we'd be moving here and he discovered that Denver had an Aquarium, it's been on the top of his list of things to do.

Lucy and the Turtle.

Chloe and the Fish

Lucy and Charlie with the Lizards.

The Sea Shore.

Chloe and the Blue Poison Dart Frogs.

Sea Turtle.

Fish with a swollen brain. (I don't think that's the official name.)

Charlie with a great smile - too bad my camera wasn't in focus.

Sea Horse.

Stingray.

Lucy and the Stingray.

Not too sure why she looks so disappointed.

The stare-down with Mr. Big Lips.

Chloe and I in the tunnel of fish.

Charlie meeting a large fish.

Fish with the crazy glowing eyes.

Lucy found a cool fish viewing nook.
Ever had a fish sit on your head?

Charlie joining in.

My three little Monkeys.
Oh, wait, I guess that wasn't Lucy and Charlie in the previous picture.

Front row seats for the Tiger feeding.

Time to go.
