Our second port day in the Caribbean was on one of our favourite islands, St Maarten. We rented a car so we could tour around the island and hit some of our favourite beaches.
First stop: Dawn Beach on the east side of the island.
Waiting for Charlie to join the picture!
And here he is, soaking wet...
Building a sand castle...
The waves were quite powerful here, being on the Atlantic side, so we didn't stay too long.
After leaving Dawn Beach, we drove counterclockwise around the island, stopping at a patisserie in Orleans, on the French side, for some sandwiches and pastries. Most amazing pastries ever! And the fresh baguette sandwiches weren't too bad, either!
Our next stop was Friar's Bay Beach on the NW coast.
While waiting in the car, Lucy spotted the biggest lizard we'd ever seen in the wild saunter over to the beach! I hope this was someone's pet on the loose...
This is a great beach for families! Gentle waves, not too steep of an incline and soft sand!
We still had some other beaches we wanted to see so we left Friar's Bay and headed SE.
It's always tricky to find Cupecoy beach but we love this one for the limestone cliffs.
Unfortunately, we misjudged how the girls would spend their time...
We didn't get a chance to go swimming here. The shore is very rocky with big waves so we took a few pictures and moved on...
As we walked to the car, we found another hermit crab. This one was much bigger than the one we found in Antigua!
Lucy, getting close, but not too close!
The next beach we went to was Mullet Bay Beach, just south of Cupecoy. We spent our whole day here the last time we were in St. Maarten so we were torn as to whether or not we should return. It's a fabulous beach so we couldn't miss it!
Super soft sand for Chloe to play in!
Warm, turquoise water for swimming with lots of fish to snorkel with!
Big rocks for Lucy to carry around.
And around...
And around, until it was time to go and she had to leave it behind! The Breeze would be setting sail in a couple of hours so we left Mullet Bay, drove by Maho Bay Beach to watch the planes coming in over the beach, and then went back to the port for some shopping before setting sail.
