Hawaii - Day 5

Charlie and Lucy in front of a mural in Kailua-Kona.

We went for a walk on the beach before hitting the Farmer's Market in Kona.

We spent the morning at Pu'uhonua O Honaunau, a National Historic Park.

The park was a Place of Refuge hundreds of years ago. Anyone who had broken kapu (rules) could attempt to cross the rocky shore and climb the Great Wall into this safe haven and the chiefs would exonerate them.
The grounds had many carved wooden ki'i (idols)

Native Hawaiians were on hand to demonstrate ancient Hawaiian games and traditions. Charlie enjoyed learning a game that was like a mix of bowling and horse shoes.

Lucy just enjoyed picking up rocks and banging them together...

We spent the afternoon at A-Bay, the beach next to our hotel.

Lucy would tire herself out swimming and running up and down the beach.
